             A Harrogate Tea Meeting

It's a scene sublime when it's feeding time
With the beasts at the famous Zoo,
Though all will agree, at a public Tea,
There are, sights worth seeing too.
There folk are seen of most hungry mien,
When they've sung their Hymns of Praises
Not a moment they shirk but set to work,
To eat and to drink like blazes.

Not a word they utter while the white bread and butter
(The " white " p'raps is open to question)
They consume all in sport with never a thought
Of inevitable indigestion.
Their thirst they slake and devour much cake,
With currants and plums in legions,
And return, by and bye, to their homes, oh my!
With a pain in the lower regions.

For each one deems, so at least it seems,
There never should be moderation,
So continue to stuff when they've had quite enough
For their delicate corporation.
With a glad light heart they turn to depart,
Though not with accustomed agility
For to heighten their speed, by all it's agreed,
Is a matter of impossibility.
