The Attractions of Harrogate

Now, Harrogate's lovely, I like it a lot,
Its attractions are varied and many,
You may, perhaps, find there a commonplace spot,
I have searched, but I couldn't find any.
The Town is laid out on a plan much admired,
(Those responsible felt it a duty),
When you've made its acquaintance your spirits are highered,
For they built on a basis of beauty.

The Town is attractive, the Country is too,
Giving visitors great satisfaction,
There are many more points, tho' between me and you,
That, combining, create an attraction ;
With government duties on spirits so great,
It must please all the Borough supporters
To know that the fame of this Town, up–to–date,
Relies a good deal on its waters ;
If he saw how the Visitors sampled the stuff,
And he watched while the same they were quaffing,
I am perfectly sure (for he's full of his bluff)
It would start our friend Pussyfoot laughing.

There are baths in galore – you can sample them hot,
Or so cold that they'll cause you to shiver,
If you've any complaints they will cure all the lot,
From distemper to corns on the liver.
Turkish Baths, at the Hydro, they always arrange
(Just to be sympathetic and tidy)
Four days of the week for the men, – but it's strange,
For the girls it's just Tuesday and Friday.

There are sports of all kinds in this beautiful Town,
Including Golf, Hunting and Tennis,
You'd not find a place of such fame and renown
If you travelled from Orkney to Venice.
Of its many attractions that mustn't be missed
I must not fail the greatest to mention,
The ladies you see there, it's safe to insist,
Are worthy of every attention;
They are dainty, alluring, – a feast to the eye,
This opinion can never be parried,
They attract many glances from men passing by,
Not only the single but married.

Take your time when at Harrogate, please,
Let your motto be "Festina Lente,"
It's a great place for taking your ease,
And enjoying your dolce far niente ;
Its attractions I've just touched upon,
With which you would all be delighted,
Though you're sure to say, after you've gone,
There are many that I haven't cited.
